CUBA: National Foreign Trade Council (NFTC) Business Delegation

From June 24-27, the Center for Democracy in the Americas cohosted a business delegation to Cuba with the National Foreign Trade Council. The delegation represented four diverse industry sectors including telecommunications and information technology, infrastructure and energy, medicine, biotechnology and health care, and banking and financial services. Delegates held official meetings with Maria de la Luz B’Hamel, Director of the Division of North America for the Ministry of Trade and Foreign Investment (MINCEX), toured the Center for Genetic and Biotechnology Engineering (CIGB) as well as the Port of Mariel and met with officials at the Informatics and Communications Business Group (Grupo Empresarial Informatica y Comunicaciones) among others. Outside of official meetings, the delegation learned about Cuba through discussions with Cuban entrepreneurs, a Cuban architect, a journalist working in Havana and Ambassadors from both the U.S. and Norway.
